About 2 years ago my sweet hubby got me a sewing machine for my birthday. Since then I have made numerous things (nursing aprons for friends with babies, burb rags, blankets...etc.), but really have made only things with straight easy lines. This past weekend, my friend and I decided to endeavor out on a different sewing journey. We made bags from an actual pattern (Amy Butler to be exact). I was a little terrified that I was going to get half way through my first bag and be completely confused and not be able to finish it, but alas it was a lot easier than I thought. Now that I feel that I have conquered bags, I'm onto quilts. Oh and the green item on the left of picture is actually a bib.

I am so proud of you. If there is one thing I wish that I really knew how to do it would be to use a sewing machine. That's awesome...maybe I'll have to invest in your sewing services!
I was totally going to ask you if you had any bag patterns because I thought you had been sewing all sorts of crazy things.
Have you been to Quilter Haven in Colonial Square? I love that place. The fabric is so expensive but they have the cutest stuff ever. I think I've been in there once a week for the past 4 weeks.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE quilter haven. I've bought a TON of stuff from them. I would say this sewing thing has become quite an addiction. You wanna join me in my addict problem. I think you would love sewing.
I'm jealous of your skills! I actually got a sewing machine for my HS graduation but have never learned how to use it. I love the bag and the bib!
Kirsten I am truly amazed. That's amazing.
You are right...we are on the same wave length!!! Your bags are WAY cuter than mine though and your skills are better too...I'd love to have a sewing day next month or in May after we are moved in and settled...we'll be in touch on days and times, but let's do it...you will have to tell me where you got the patterns....they are SO CUTE!!!!
That's great. I actually love quilting - my advice would be get a book and don't get intimidated. I hate following patterns and so I like to think my quilts are more creative than some. Anyway, I want to try some other things, are there tricks or simple patterns you recommend?
I really want to learn to sew. I'm pathetic when it comes to that stuff. Help!
you should join this quilt message board I am in. No effort on your part. They send you links to patterns all over the web. This time there was the cutest bag, and I am going to make it! Here is the link!

Granted... I am not a huge yo yo fan, so I am taking those off.
Also, you all should try the shop by Albertson's in Centerville. It is right new to Empire Chinese. It is kind of a weird location, but the often times have the same fabrics as Quilters haven, only for a bit less. Also, if you can't find it at Quilters Haven, try there!
