Most of the time I appreciate Oprah and her guests, and today's discussion was based around sex. While I believe it's absolutely the right thing to talk to our children and get them thinking about stuff, do you really think we need to give our children tools (and in this case the therapist was suggesting we provide vibrators and teach our children how to masturbate) to become more sexualized? Seriously, isn't there enough sexualization going on in the world--don't they get it enough everywhere else? What about keeping our kiddos knowledgable but innocent? ARGGG! You can be rest assured that we will not be purchasing any such "tools" for our children. Am I wrong here?

oprah is the devil.
better medium could satan have to reach mothers?
Most of the time I really like her, but I find it odd that she herself is giving advice on how to raise children and she's never had any.
Wow. That is ridiculous. I agree with you. Knowledgeable but innocent.
Wow, that is disappointing and disgusting. There used to be a clear line between sexual education and sexual abuse - it sounds like that line is getting thinner and thinner. What would a DCFS caseworker say about a parent who taught their children these things?
That's the exact reason I can't stand watching her show. Kids need to be educated but not to the point of telling them it's okay to use "tools."
YUCK! This is why I'm terrified for my little girl to grow up! It was hard enough for us to be good, what's it going to be like in 15 more years??? Yikes!
What the crap! I read in a parenting magazine just a little while ago that parents should encourage their children's sexual curiousity with "tools" and tell them it's okay to do those things, but to do it in private. Honestly, how messed up. I agree with being honest and open, but smart at the same time.
Wow, I hadn't heard about this! How sad. There is a time and a place for teaching your children, but 'tools' in my opinion it out of line. Boo to Opera!
I was channel surfing the other day and happened to stop for a second when she was talking to the skyper about her 4 year old daughter masturbating to calm herself down. That is a huge problem and in my household it would not be okay to let her explore herself that way. I had to change the channel because it disgusted me. I am glad you felt the same way
That is just sick. That is why I stick to watching Dora.
I saw it too! But, it wasn't Oprah who said it, it was a therapist on her show. She was a bit iffy on it... oh well. Yuck times 10! Sorry, my kids are gonna be raised the old fashioned way--thank you very much!
wow wow wow! That's some seriously messed up advice Oprah is condoning.
Unreal... I agree, there's enough "stimulation" out there. Isn't it interesting that all of these things these days seem to about teach immediate gratification/satisfaction vs. maybe teaching about self-control and discipline? Absolutely educate about sex and not bury your head in the sand with your children, but masturbation techniques?? Yeah... I have a nice visual of one of those pretty baskets you make with Hell wrapped up inside of it! ;-)
