Every year my work puts on this huge chalk art festival. Professional and amatuer artists register to be apart of the contest. This year we had about 23 adult artists and approximately 20 something student artists. One of the adult artists was my little sis, Meg. Although she didn't win anything, I still think she's one of the best (I may be biased). Below I have featured some pictures of Meg working on her peice of art and other favorites of mine at the festival. Meg bought this picture while in Hawaii and decided that she was going to recreate it at the festival. She really should have one "Best Reproduction" because her picture resembled the original a great deal.
Our photographer took this picture of Meg's drawing... it's a close-up of the lips. I'm so proud of Meggers...she's such an awesome artist.
This was a cool peice of art. If you looked at with the right angle it looked 3-D. In fact, if you look closely you can see a cat and a bird looking down into the waterfall to catch a fish.
One artist did our chalk art festival logo in chalk...very nice of them...but they still didn't win!
Meg's peice finished. It's called "A Prelude to a Kiss."
Meg hard at work in 104 degree weather. It was sweltering hot that day and we couldn't keep the artists hydrated enough. I swear I walked the Gateway Mall with a cooler of water almost 30 times that day and we still had artists so thirsty.
Moku came to support mommy at the festival. He stayed tied up to a near by lamp post under the shade. At one point he came with me and sat under the table where it was nice and cool. Oh and if you look closely you can see that he is peeing. Good boy little Moku! On Sunday we went over to Meg's house after our walk with Tug and Gus and we let all of the boys play for a bit. It was super cute to see how gentle Tug would be with little Moku. Moku also started barking for the first time. His little yelp was the cutest sound ever...but believe me, it will not be so cute when he's 60 lbs. Good Luck Meg!
This peice was amazing! It was done by 4 college-aged girls and they have participated in the festival for the past 3 years...winning 2 times out of the 3. It had so much detail...this photograph doesn't do it justice.
This was also another peice that had a ton of detail. I was amazed with the talent we have in Utah. We had some great peices of artwork...it was shame that they power sprayed the streets a day later.

Beautiful Kauai!
Little Moku hanging out in his box. Right before this picture was taken he was hanging out next to the water with Tim and the tide came up and swept him off of his feet. He was so terrified he ran back and jumped into his box and would only peer out after that.
Cafe Portafino restaurant at the Marriot Beach Club Resort over looking Kalapaki Beach.
The Marriot's pool was amazing. It was huge and it had 5 hot tubs. We were in heaven!
Cafe Portafino!
Tim never smiles normally...he's always got to make some silly face when we're trying to take pictures.
Queen's Bath--after a fourth of a mile, red muddy trail and climbing a million lava rocks you come upon the most beautiful pots of water you can jump into and snorkel around in.
Queen's Bath
On our last day at Kalapaki Beach Tim and I went out sailing in Nawiliwili Bay. We were so excited to be out on the water and we saw two turtles fairly close to the boat. However, Captain Don was a little tweaked on some sort of drug and we were glad to be back on solid ground after our hours worth.
Meg and Moku in Haleiwa (on the North Shore in Oahu) just right before we went and ate yummy pizza at Spaghettini's.
so cute!
Kailee buried in the sand out front of our hotel
Hideaway's Beach--right before we made our descent down the rickety, wonky staircase.

Hideaway's Beach--this beach was so beautiful. It was hidden away from anything else and only a few people new of this gem. It also had beautifully calm waters that were perfect for snorkeling.

Boarding the Wade K boat. Kailee that it was pretty neat that there was a boat with her same name. She just had to take a million pictures next to it. Soon after the boat took us up to Fern Grotto.

Tim doing the rope swing at Kipu Falls. This swimming hole was hidden off the highway and we wouldn't have known about it unless we had followed our tour guide book for directions. We visited Kipu Falls a few times while we were there...it became our favorite hang out. There was also a beautiful 20 foot waterfall that you could jump off of....it was absolutely beautiful.
Our PT Cruiser Convertible that we rented for a day. We drove around the entire island and saw so much awesome sights.
Turtle at Poipu Beach
Monk seals came up on the beach at Poipu Beach. There were two of them and one of them came up further onto the beach allowing me to snap some pretty close pictures.
Wailua Falls--you used to be able to hike down the base of the falls until last year a young girl died during a flash flood and they now have the entire thing marked off.

Lunch at Brennecke's--they had the yummiest smoothies. In fact Meghan and Tim ordered $30 worth of drinks between the two of them.

Welcome Home Hawaiian Pup!
We just returned from Kauai and on our last day of travel Meg bought a puppy out of a card board box out front of a little super market on the North Shore in Oahu. She arranged to have him come home with her on the airplane and he now has a new home on Sunnyside Avenue in SLC. He's just about the cutest thing you'll ever see. He's 3/4th Lab and 1/4 Chow. He has cute little jowls and little nubby teeth. Meg would like to name him with a Hawaiian names...anyone have any good name ideas? Anywho...we're excited to welcome him into our family :) and more pictures of our fun filled Kauai trip are to come shortly.
